Community Benefits

We care about our region and continue to play an active role in supporting and investing in our community.

Henvey Inlet Wind, along with its owners - Nigig Power Corporation, which is 100% owned by the Henvey Inlet First Nation, and Pattern Canada - are committed to bringing benefits to the local communities near the project and along the transmission route.

We support the local area through the Henvey Inlet Wind Community Benefits Program, a formal program that ensures the project creates lasting benefits for the region, as well as through sponsorships of community causes.

The Community Benefits Program supports four key regions along the project's 90 km transmission line. Over the first twenty years of facility operations, each of the following areas will receive $1,000,000: the Municipality of McDougall, Township of Seguin, Township of Carling and Township of the Archipelago. The contributions will fund projects and initiatives that benefit local residents, including:

    • Advancing community initiatives;
    • Enhancing ecological preservation, restoration or education;
    • Fostering individual and community health and wellness; and
    • Promoting the needs of youth development through education or recreation.

We also proudly support the following community events and causes:

    • Britt Public School - Breakfast Program
    • Brit Winter Carnival
    • Henvey Inlet First Nation Traditional Pow Wow
    • Wiigwaas Youth Camp
    • Shawanaga First Nation Traditional Powwow
    • Robinson Huron Treaty Gathering at Shawanaga First Nation
    • Henvey Inlet First Nation Day Care

These sponsorships allow the Henvey Inlet Wind project to begin creating significant impacts now, as well as setting the foundation to continue doing so for generations to come.

If you have suggestions for community partnerships or local causes we should support, we'd love to hear from you.
